Comment: I have always believed that an actor from Bonanza the tv show of
the early 60's was attacked and killed by pirahnas whilst filming in south
America. I haven't been able to find out anything about this - has anyone
else heard this?

Are you sure you're not thinking of Eric Fleming who portrayed trail boss Gil Favor on the western series Rawhide (1959-1965). Fleming did make guest appearances in three episodes of Bonanza in 1966: The Pursued: Part 2 (1966) TV Episode Heber Clawson; The Pursued: Part 1 (1966) TV Episode Heber Clawson; Peace Officer (1966) TV Episode Wes Dunn. That same year, Fleming contracted with MGM-TV to film the two-part adventure series High Jungle in Peru. During the shooting of location shots on the Huallaga River on September 28, 1966, Fleming dove from a dug-out canoe after paddling it beyond the rapids. Tragically, Fleming drowned and his body was lost in the turbulent water and was not recovered until three days later.

Is there *any* record of a person being attacked and killed by piranhas? It's probably happened at some time or another, but according to stuff I've read, there are reports of people losing fingers and toes and even some bits of flesh to them, but no deaths.
