A wild thought just struck me: I wonder if the filmmakers didn't intend this film as a bit of propaganda, a political commentary? Perhaps a hint of warning against Communism -- or perhaps (I smile to think of this) against anti-Communist hysteria. "Once in motion, none stops to ask why.
