A wild possum has baffled experts after turning up in an inner city garden in Southampton. Oz, the bush-tailed possum was found in Marie Young's back garden. His is not thought to be a pet as he is feral.

Feral. Probably belongs to someone. I see a problem putting those 2 descriptions together.

Our local opossum smell like they have been dead and out in the sun for about a week. Last time I had to shoo one out of the garbage can I yelled at it for being so disgusting. Nasty, smelly animals. *shudder*

So he's thought to be feral by the RSPCA, but they also think he escaped from somewhere?

Sorry Menolly, probably repeating what you just said!

He does look in remarkably good nick (and company) for a 3rd generation wild Southampton possum! (Do they like salt water?!)

[hijack] I had a pet opossum. Sweetest, smartest thing. It's funny how your view of them changes when you raise one as a baby. I used to think they were gross, too. The dogs killed his mama, and my dad brought him home as a joke. I had really long hair back then, and when I bent over him to look at him he grabbed my hair and climbed it to my scalp, and I about had a panic attack, but he hissed at anyone who tried to remove him. We quickly found out that the sounds he made when he saw me were the same ones wild possum babies use to call their mamas, and he wore a collar and was litter box trained. He returned to the wild on his own after he was full-grown. [/hijack]
