A teenager sold more than her mother's video camera for $200.

She didn't know a home video of her mother and her mother's boyfriend engaged in an intimate act was in the camera.

Hi All:

The mother called police and her daughter was charged with theft.
Mother is having daughter charged? Talk about tough love. Maybe it's just me, but it sounds that there's more to this story than just selling a video camera with a naughty recording in it.

I'm guessing this isn't the first time the little minx has caused her mother grief.

Lawyer Robert Beninger said his client didn't know the tape was in the camera.

What does that have to do with the fact that she stole the camera?

That removes the theory that she stole the camera becasue the tape was in there to embarrass her mother.

Hmm, seems like a pretty poor move on the mother's part, charging her own kid. After all, someone has to pay the court fees, a lawyer, etc. Why not just discipline her on their own terms? Ah well.

For all we know, the girl does crap like this all the time and her mom has had enough. My 27 year old brother has been begging, conning, and stealing money from my grandmother and mother since he was 14. He used to get it from me when I was little (stole my birthday money, the NFBSK. All I wanted was Ninja Turtles and gum [Frown] ). He's probably gotten thousands from them over the years, and it's not like either one can exactly afford it.
A few months ago, my mom let him in our house while I was still asleep, and didn't tell me so that I could hide my purse. He took my credit card. When I realized it was gone I told my mom that if he charged one thing on it I was calling the cops. She convinced him to give it back, but if he hadn't done so I would not have hesitated to have him arrested, blood or no blood.

The good news for the daughter is that the fine is in Canadian dollars. Therefore, she's only out about $1800 real dollars!

Fine? There was no mention about a fine, only that the charge was under 5,000. The current Canadian currency exchange is over $.80 and going up. It hasn't gone to trial yet so how can there be a fine?

Sorry. It was just meant to be a smart ass comment using hyperbole. I don't usually do that kind of research on off the cuff remarks.

Sheesh. Tough Room

She convinced him to give it back. You make it sound like she knew he took it while you were sleeping. In either case I would do the same. Slime is slime regardless of relation. Sorry you have to go through that with him.

I have a brother like that. About 25 years ago, he stole a bunch of stuff from my 'rents, including a brand new police scanner. Of course, he denied having anything to do with the missing stuff. Then he went & got himself busted breaking into a store. Even at my young age I thought it was freaking hillarious that he would dare ask Mom & Dad to bail him out. It was even funnier when they said they would get him out when they got their stuff back. They got their stuff back, & he got bailed out. (Although he did go to prison for the crime).

She was 19 right? So as an adult what did she expect when she stole something? Obviously whatever mom was doing previously didn't work so I guess the daughter gets to play with the courts for a while.

Of course I am assuming the mom was doing something and not a contributing factor. [Roll Eyes]

Thanks. She knew because whenever something goes missing, it's always assumed to be him, and the assumption is almost always correct.

Emphasis mine. It also says the camera was reported missing November 2004. So she would have been 18.

Nonetheless, yes, she was old enough to have known that stealing is illegal.
