not quite in those blanket terms, but yes, eating those foods can help keep you healthy.

For instance, just to pick one:
Ginger is fantastic. Yes, it helps with nausea - travel sickenss, morning sickeness, tummy bugs.
It's also great for breaking up phlegm in stuffy coughs and colds, and it has a warming effect in the body, so if your feet are cold, get some giner in ya, to get the circulation humming.
(or just put some chilli poweder in your shoes)

Gingernut biscuits will help, or you can munch crystallised ginger, or slice some fresh and make a tea, or a body rub, or an inhalation.
Ginger steeped in hot oil makes a fantastic massage oil...and so on.

Can ya tell I use it all the time?

When I was a kid, I was always getting these weird bladder problems. My mom asked my doctor what to do about it and she brought up the old wives tale that cranberry juice will help because of the acid content. Doctor said that juices actually hurt your urinary system if there is something wrong. He told me to drink lots and lots of water and pee all the time. It usually worked.

My is from Thailand. Some times I think she beleive Ginger Root will cure every thing.

She tries to get me to drink a big cup of ginger root tea every day. Tells me its good for my health, pervent colds and cures eveything. The problem is I hate the stuff. Its fine as a seasoning but straight, its horrible.

I've had multiple doctors recommend it, or the rough equivilent of the little cranberry capsules. So I wouldn't personally be so quick to brush it off as an old wives tale.

Hmm, interesting fact of the day - I used to suffer very badly from asthma when I was around 12, I went to the doctor and found that I had only half the breath power (measuered by this funny machine you breathe into) than I should. PE lessons often wore me out with just the warm up! I'm now 18 and while I am still unfit, my breathing problems seem to have severely reduced. Now this coula be because I now actually exercise or it could just be me growing up, or it could be that morning coffee I've had every morning for four years.

Hooray for coffee

Ginger didn't put a dent in my morning sickness. Nothing that I tried did. I've also heard that mint helps, but it didn't work for me.

Bananas for an upset stomach?!? What kind of upset? Heartburn? No way. I have GERD and only eat bananas when I've taken my Rx a hour beforehand. Ginger perhaps, I've never tried it but many people have told me it works for nausea.

I don't like bananas. Peppermint works really good on an upset stomach. One time I got rid of my motion sickness by consuming some Rolaids

Screw the cornflakes. I'm having chocolate (especially hot chocolate which helps get rid of cramps)

My grandfather always used to swear by peppermint oil. I certainly know these little mint-coated M&M-like candies that I don't think they make anymore used to help with my cramps.

While ginger is a specific for treating nausea, it is also strongly recommended that you consult your OB before self-treating morning sickness with ANYTHING.

And it doesn't "cure" morning sickness, it eases the symptoms temporarily. If it were cured, it wouldn't come back!

Some People have problems with Ginger
me for example
I am allergic to ginger
and it is one of my munchkins that many herbs get promoted as some sort of cure all
this is a problem as any one can provoke a bad allergic reaction for some
just think if (peanuts or strawberry's to name two well known items that cause allergic reactions) were promoted as a cure all

I have had herb pushers say that I can not of have a bad reaction as it is all natural product (so are hemlock poison ivy arsenic lead and radon gas )
they will (and I have had them ) slip ginger into something else to catch you out and prove that it is good for you (NFBSK heads)

On another note, I wonder if there's some sort of a ratings system based on the number of exclamation points per listing.

For instance, why does GINGER get 5 where as FISH only gets 1 and is listed for more cures than GINGER?
