A few years ago, my familay had an old tan van. One day, very oddly, we found some very odd footprints on the car's back windshield. They were of hands with opposable thumbs, and they were very narrow and very rectangular--all the fingers were nearly the same length. They looked like monkey prints, but yet they didn't look like any monkey's paw I knew. And anywho, how would they have gotten there? A random marauding monkey? I don't know. Anyone else have any similar expirences like this, or know what they might be?

Doesn't the raccoon have hand-like paw prints?

ETA I ASSUMED You're living in North America. Are there primates in your region if you're not in North America?

Sorta OT:

I remember when I was a kid, on the school bus, there were footprints on the ceiling. Many even. Don't know how the hell that happened.

I live in the American Southwest. There are neither wild primates nor raccoons(to my knowledge) around here...

ETA: Nope, those don't look like the prints. They didn't have claws, and had very distinctive thumbs.

Opossum tracks will appear to have an opposable thumb.

Raccoons do occur in parts of the Southwest. Where exactly are you?

Claws (nails) do not necessarily show in all tracks.

You have not given size estimates of the tracks yet.

Ok. Here we go...

The tracks were around 4 and a half inches long.

I'm in Tucson, Arizona.

Whoa! It was 4.5 inches with an opposable thumb in Tucson? My guess is a child.

Could you be wrong about the size? Are you just trying to remember how big they were?

PS: There are raccoons in Tucson, usually near water and in Coronado Park.

It would be tough to tell what type of animal it is without a photo.

When I was in school we used to make fake "foot prints" using out hands. This can be done in snow, frost, on chalkboards or (by dusting your hands with some chalk) on the inside roof of a bus.

A baby foot print is easy. Just make a fist and then press the side of your fist opposite the thumb against the surface. Then use your fingers to add the toe prints. It can be very realistic looking if done right. With a little creativity realistic animal prints can also be created.

I knew the baby one. [Big Grin]

I wish I had a photo, now. I'll never be able to get a good answer now without one.

Hmmm... coatimundis? Could they leave prints like that? I know they are here in Tucson as I saw one at Sabino Canyon...begging for food from some picnickers.

No, not 4.5 inches with opposable thumb. Pull out a ruler and look at 4.5 inches.

There are no animals there fitting that description, other than humans.
