I just got this on a bulletin. Although I sincerely doubt its validity, I can't help but feel a little worried.
Tom sent a message today, he wants to let everyone know his plans for november. There will be 2 types of MySpace accounts; Basic Users, and Power Users.
It will be free for people to sign up as Basic Users, but you will only be able to add Power Users as friends and have a basic page.
Power Users will be charged 9.95 per month, but they will be able to fully customize thier page and chat with whomever they like. They can add Basic Users, OR Power Users as friends.
Heres the thing. Tom is going to give out Power User accounts if you copy and paste this into a new bulletin. His plan is to keep the active users around to help sell the Power User accounts. Make sure you have this Buletin posted before October 31st or you will be defaulted to just a Basic User and lose all the people on your friends list.
I expect its a joke. Why should I lose everyone on my friends list because I don't pay 10 dollars?

First, Tom will never ask anybody to repost a bulletin for any reason whatsoever. Second, the charm of myspace is that anybody can sign up for an account. If you make it exclusive like that, then casual users won't sign in. SO the very reason to log into myspace will be defeated.
Oh yeah, and myspace makes a ton of revenue from ads, and they probably won't recoup that money from the loss of traffic. Myspace is nice, but it's not $10 a month nice.

Here's the truly awesome bulletin someone posted in response to this:
Let's disect this, shall we? I'll bold my comments to this one so they'll stand out. Snopesters will be proud of me!

First off, why would Tom send a message to random users, instead of posting a bulletin? Or better yet, putting a pop-up when you first log in? Or put the notice on the page where you log in? Or any of the more useful ways to notify the thousands of people on myspace? Because sending random messages would take a really, really long time.
It will be free for people to sign up as Basic Users, but you will only be able to add Power Users as friends and have a basic page.
So, as a non-paying customer, you can only add paying customers? Um, that makes no sense. I can see "premium customers" only being allowed to add other "premium" customers, but to make it so that Miss I-can't-pay can add all her buddies who DID pay?
Power Users will be charged 9.95 per month, but they will be able to fully customize thier page and chat with whomever they like. They can add Basic Users, OR Power Users as friends.
This part MIGHT make sense, if any of the previous drivel did.

And Bill Gates owes me a check for $497.85 for all those emails I forwarded. Because you know, they can track those things, and have the resources to. After all, myspace doesn't have the resources to fix all their bugs, but they can track what bulletins you do and don't post.
Thanks from Tom Back at you, Tom! (and to my friends, pass this on by hitting reply, then copying all of my codes, and reposting in your own bulletin.)

I'm tempted to repost this one myself.
I don't know why people bother making stuff like this up. If Tom had something important to tell people, he would post a bulletin himself.

It is fake... I got the same bulletin over the summer except it said that he was going to do it in July instead of November. I didn't even bother sending it out b/c I figured if it was really true he would put a pop up on my page like he does when he wants to let everyone on myspace know something.

I just read this in a bulletin and thought, "How many times are we gonna go through this?!"
I mean, THINK about it people! Whenever Tom has an "important message" to send, don't you always see him in that little box on the welcome page after you sign in? Why would he waste his time on a silly bulletin? And if your friends are anything like the ones I have, you get a million bulletins a day and may not even get a chance to read them all. So why would he miss the chance to get the message out to everyone?
