(sorry, I am not creative enough to come up with a good title for this thread, suggestions welcome)

I got this email. I am in the 98%:

I thought of a blue screwdriver, but I'm tired. I've done that kind of test before (don't know if it was a color and a tool, though, can't remember), and I remember that I was in the majority.

You know, "puzzles" like this are sometimes called "Jedi Mind Tricks." And for some time I've been curious to know how far back this particular form of "brain teaser" goes. Anyway, here are a few more,

I thought of an orange hammer - ha! Although that's mainly because as soon as I read the first sentence I thought "carrot"...

Me too, on both counts. I'm also rather contrarian.

Can anyone explain to me how these things work ?

Scout.

The example in the 2nd link is a bit more sneaky - it uses the fact that the digits of any 2-digit number divisible by 9 will invariably add up to 9 ... subtract 5 to get 4 and robert is your father's brother. There aren't that many countries beginning with D, animals beginning with K, etc.

I've heard a similar version that leads you to the number 5 (E) and tells you to think of an animal beginning with that letter, then think of the colour of that animal. Most people come up with a grey elephant. (If they say 'green drill' they're either insane or very bad at maths [Big Grin] )

I actually did think "red hammer"! But it's because I'd just read another post that mentioned the song "Sledgehammer" and the folder closest to my monitor is red. Still, pretty weird.
