Alright, I know that this is probably the most incredibly unreliable way to find a fact, but I thought that it would be interesting to put up here, if nothing else. http://atlanta.craigslist.org/clo/46249743.html Is there any legitimacy to any of these claims, whether it be the group actually exists or any proof of Bush and/or Kerry being in it?

Yes, there is a secret society at Yale called Skull and Bones. Yes, both President Bush and Senator Kerry are members. Skull and Bones is old...dates back to 1832. It's been the subject of speculation, myth and the fodder of conspiracy theories (and at least 2 bad movies) for a very long time.

What, exactly, is a "secret society"? Anything more than a glorified fraternity?

Depends on the Secret Society in question.
In this case, *rubs magic 8-ball* "Signs point to no." No, it's pretty much a glorified fraternity.

I know a couple of 32nd degree Masons.
It's a social club, little more. They have fun recognizing each other at parties by secret signs and signals. (And the Shriners are heavily involved in charitable work.)
The KKK, now, they're something to be a little worried about. (But not a whole lot; there was a running joke in the 1970's that 38% of the Klan's membership was undercover FBI agents...)

I guess hearing that they were both members kind of flips on the old paranoia switch in my head after the movies. Stupid Hollywood screwing with my head.

Here's a theory that I'm surprised that I haven't heard during the democratic primaries:
Bush and Kerry are both S&B. Kerry was running for the DNC nomination so that he could throw the election, thus ensuring the re-election of his fraternal brother.
It's obviously not true, but since when has that stopped the Tin Foil Hat Brigade?

snopes often changes title or moves thread if he feels that doing so is appropriate. I would guess that he felt that your previous title was a little vague and he edited it for clarity. I wouldn't worry too much about it except to try to put more descriptive titles in the future.

I would spin it the opposite way. The Bush knew he was unpopular and would have problems getting re-elected, so arranged for his S&B brother to run as the Democrat and keep the power base despite a Bush loss.

Yeah, I figured as much. It just feels like a little jab in the side to know that my title had to be changed. I must vow to never let it happen again.

I recall seeing a History Channel special on secret societies, and one of the little tidbits of info smarmy host Arthur Kent tossed out before a commercial was that Bush's S&B nickname was "Temporary." (Temporary may not have been the exact word-- it's been a while since I saw that special-- but it was at least something with a similar meaning.)
Obviously, most History Channel info on secret societies should be taken with a grain of salt, even though it's interesting to watch and speculate.

To read more about the Skull and Crossbones society and both Bush & Kerry becoming members of this alumni network check out: Vanity Fair's August 2004 issue (it has David Beckham on the cover).
The story about George W. Bush nickname being "Temporary" is in this article. It says there are 3 ways to get a nickname: 1. have a patriarch pass his nickname down to you; 2. accept a traditionally assigned name; or 3. pick your own.
It states: "George W. Bush, unable to come up with his own name, was dubbed 'Temporary' and never managed to decide on a replacement." (Vanity Fair, August 2004 p. 158, 2nd column)
