So, as a christmas present to myself, I decided that I would update my decade-old khaki-colored, ill-fitting, but still comfortable double-breasted trench coat with a brand-spanking new one. The problem is, I'd like a black one, because it will go with more of my wardrobe than the khaki - but, unless I'm willing to get a leather or lambskin one, they just do not seem to be available anywhere, not in my size, anyway: I'm 6'6" and have a 52" chest, and I like my trench coats to be at least to my knees. I've searched and searched, to no avail. Are trench coats on the way out? If so, that's a shame. If not, where else shall I look, I've tried Burlington (of course), and I've tried numerous and varied Google searches, all I ever seem to come up with are the aforementioned leather, pleather, or lambskin 'trench coats'.
I'm at a loss, does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Have you tried a Froogle search for on-line retailers. Key in 'mens trench coat'. The search is geographically targetted so I could only look at UK stores, but I did see a polyester/cotton mix one in black for about £150. So they are still out in the wild. [Smile]

London Fog makes a great trench coat and they are still making them.

You can also usually find them at Army surplus stores.

Have you tried big and tall men's shops? Suit places? Burlington Coat Factory?

Maybe I'm thinking of something different, but I think of a trench coat as sort of a dressy rain coat.

Here's a wool one in charcoal, or a leather one in black.
Does that help at all? I like that leather one, meself. [Smile]

I have one more or less like that (although less wide). I bought it in Amman, Jordan. It's worth the trip, but a bit expensive if you do it just for the coat. They do them tailor made as well.

I know it's already been suggested, but you really might want to try a Big and Tall shop, or a department store with a Big and Tall section. My dad is 6'7", 300ish pounds, so I'm guessing you're around the same size. He recently bought a black wool trenchcoat from JC Penney online. I believe my brother (6'5") buys most of his clothes from Penney's as well. They have a good B&T selection, without being as crazy expensive as some of the specialty stores.

There's a big and tall specialty men's store in downton San Antonio. I think it's called Penner's or something similar. They have an ad in the Express-News from time to time.

I got mine from an Army disposal store. I must admit it was a while ago now. I bought it for the look, but I nust admit it is a nice warm thick wool coat, so it works well as more than a fashio accessory too. It's been attacked by moths though, so I might be in for a new one too.

Wow, my thanks to everyone who responded! I guess when searching around, I didn't do too good a job (not a surprise) I appreciate all the directions that you all have given me, and I have found a coat that I want, and have ordered it.

Now I can set my mind at ease about this upcoming winter

Thanks again,

My husband is 6'4". He got a trenchcoat made by Woolrich when he was 15 or 16 that lasted him a good 15 or 16 years. I would recommend going into a store so that you can try it on, but you can peruse the styles online.
