C'mon, you know you want to know, but it's not the kind of thing you can just ask people about (or at least, I can't). So this is your chance to reveal all, anonymously. There's no judg(e)ment implied here, but if you're shy, maybe you want to wait until a few people have taken the poll before you respond with comments. And I'm not going first!
I realise this is fraught with complication: how to design categories, for instance. (Is 3 different enough from 4 to require a new category? Why isn't 5?) How to define sex? How to accommodate unusual (ahem!) combinations? For today's purposes "a sexual partner" is defined as someone with whom you have had consensual oral or penetrative intercourse, or had a consensual encounter in which at least one partner has achieved climax. Solitary masturbation counts as zero partners, I'm afraid, gratifying though it may be.
C'mon! Gratify my 'satiable curiosity!

A definition of sexual partner might be in order. For sexual intercourse, my answer would be 1. For fooling around, necking, petting, etc. without intercourse, my answer was 2.

One, and he's all I ever need. I don't know if he'll always be my only partner, but if I were never with anyone else, I'd be just as fulfilled as I am now. (He's been my only one for *everything* from first kiss to sex, so the poll was easy for me to answer.)

Ok. I think that would go under definition two, which I wrote that way to avoid categorizing teenage petting as sex, but I admit we're getting a bit hazy. Still, that sounds pretty intimate and deliberately sexual to me.

My personal definition is the first one, penetrative intercourse and/or oral. So my current SO is my only partner. If we go with the other definition, then there would have been one other.

My number is 18 for intercourse, but the number goes up to (I think) 23 if oral is in the equation. Some mistakes were made, sure, but I'm recall the vast majority of them positively.

hmmmm The problem with this poll is that it doesn't tell us a whole lot because of age differences and commitment status (assuming fidelity within a continuing relationship regardless of legal status). There's a big difference between a 19 year old with 20 past partners and a 42 year old with 20 past partners. And someone who is "married" (officially, or unofficially, to one or more people at a time) is effectively out of the game, regardless of how much sex they're actually having. For example, my answer was 12, but that was spread out over 16 years. I think a more interesting view would be of average number of different partners a year excluding periods of commitment of 1 year or longer (assuming fidelity).

I'm just surprised that, on average, women seem to have had more partners than men. Stereotypes would have you believe it'd be the other way around.

I've been fortunate. A three of my partners have had fewer partners than I had, and none of them was bothered by it. One guy said he liked my experience level.

It is mathmatically impossible for hetrosexual men to be more promiscuous than hetrosexual women. Every time a man has a new partner, a women is also having a new partner.

That's why I threw in the word hetrosexual. Yes, bisexuals mix things up a bit and then there is bestiality and necrophilia, though if someone has sex with you when you are dead do they count as a partner for you to?
