It's probably a hoax. The story goes that the woman who snapped the picture was at her daughter's house trying to setup her new camera when they heard something scratching behind the bookshelves. They say this thing ran out from behind the bookshelves and escaped out an open door. I think its a hoax, but it still looks pretty weird! It's almost like a bald cat with fingers

It's the last picture on this page --http://ghoststudy.com/new9/parapics.html.
We where discussing it on the ghoststudy forum, and decided that if you ignore all the blur it looks like a sphinx cat being help by two hands around his midsection.

It kind of looks like a hairless chihuahua to me. But it's so blurry that a sphinx cat is just as likely. (ETA after looking at it again, the eyes look more like a cat than a dog, so I'll go with the sphinx theory too.) It only looks supernatural if you are already looking for something weird. I agree with RubyMoon that it just looks like there are hands around it. Maybe they went to pick it up just as the camera went off and saw they had an odd result so decided to see how far they could take it. Whoever "they" are (Terry?). The explanation makes no sense to me either. She was resting and thinking of waking up AND trying to figure out a setting on her camera? Just seems strange to me.

Looks like some sort of monkey to me - maybe a squirrel monkey or similar?

If it is not an animal, what is it? Looks like a hairless kitten (sphinx, probably) being picked up off a shelf to me.

Ok, so you think it is a doll of some sort. That is all I was trying to figure out.

"... so here's what we did. My buddy Blake (a reconstructive surgeon) and I first spent 6 years looking for a Sphinx kitten which had deformed legs that looked like alien limbs. We found one. For 3 weeks we fed the cat potassium gartritrate to make its pupils big and round. Then Blake does surgery on the face so that it looks like an alien. Then we cut off its ears. Then we dipped the whole cat in bleach to make it look bleached. We tried to get a bottle of freak (to make it look freaked) but couldn't find that stuff. Then I took pictures of it as Blake whisked it across the shelf. After a few, we got the shot we wanted. Then we sent the photo to a ghost research website. I bet folks are still scratching their heads over it. It took lots of time and work, but dude it was totally worth it!"

I don't think it's a doll --mostly because it seems to have a very angry look on it's face, and is lashing out with it's left "arm/forpaw." It just looks too feline to me.

Hmmm my first thought was a cat getting a bath... It it not necessarily hairless-- I thought it could be a white or light colored cat soaking wet (they get that weird alien-y look when soaked...) That would also explain the wide-eyed expression!

A few years back there was a thread here about a rash of animal sightings in Maryland of what was reported to be a new, predatory animal. Motion sensing cameras caught pictures of a odd, Hyena like, dog sized, nearly hairless four legged creature with a pointed snout.
Rumors ran rampant for a while as to what it could be, but in the end the animal was caught and identified as a normal Red Fox infected with mange.
So it has become something of a running gag on this site to refer to any odd picture of an unknown object, particularly an unknown animal, as a "Fox with mange."

BUT Barns was right on the spot with a correct identification of the original critter as a fox with mange. He de man!

Gotta go with the Sphinx-kitty-getting-a-bath on this one.
I love it when the ghostly story doesn't come close to matching what's going on in the photo. That bookshelf he's coming out of looks alot like a sink to me;-)

I think you might be right Xia -- been so long since I gave a cat bath I forgot how their fur just sticks to the body.
TuFurg -- I didn't think it looked like much of a book case, but I couldn't figure out what it was.
So now I can go back to the ghost study forum and tell them that it's a cat getting a bath.
(the monthly ghost gallery is not usually such a joke -- but the admin lost 3 close family members in a car accident, and then had the site hacked -- so he only stuck those pictures up to give us something to talk about until he gets his site together.)

I wanna know why you all have potted plastic plants in your bathutbs? I think it is a shelf (not a bookshelf, just a wall shelf or mantle) seen from a low angle.

I don't have potted plants in my bathtub, but I do keep a small on on the sink counter for decoration. In the sink is where it would end up I've I tried to bath Samwise in that sink.
I showed the picture to my hubby tonight, and without telling him anything exept to ask him "What's this a picture of" He imediately said "Princess getting flea dipped" Figured he would recognize an angry wet kitten, because he still bears the scares from Princess

Yep. I also believe that's the drain (with stopper plug) we're seeing to the right of the kitty.
The sink edge is visible at the bottom of the photo as well covering up the bottom of the plant pot, the drain and the kitty's feet. Doesn't look like any part of a shelf to me.

Do you guys think this is a photo of a cat? It doesn't really look like one to me. I agree there are resemblances, but the differences are striking and meaningful. I'm nearly certain that this is a Photo Shopped image, not an actual photograph.
I've posted the photo here for convenience and also a photo of Sphinx kittens. Right away we see that the ears are missing, the mouth area doesn't seem quite right and the leg(s) don't look right. The foot (hand) appears to gave been given a blur with details that suggest the obligatory long fingers of a genuine alien. The overall fuzziness (which is fabricated to suggest movement) is not indicative of an actual photo. The alien's right eye is quite distinct, while its left eye is a goofy tumor blob that looks off into space (E.T. phone home now?). Somebody may have started with a cat photo, but then they had a wild time with PhotoShop.
Have fun...

It looks like a kitten being taken down from a shelf with the right hand while the left hand is using the camera. An angry/scared cat will lay its ears back and paw at the surface it is leaving. It probably got stuck on a mantle and the owner thought it looked cute enough to run a video camera while rescuing it and came up with this.
