I recently decided that one of the things I wanted to do with my new computer was to try some of the neat MMOs that are free or nearly free online.
The first one I've tried so far is Second Life. I'm impressed that it's got a decent following.
Things I like about it - Customizable avatars. Right now I have a goth cybergirl. After much tweaking, I've managed to get her the way I like, though I still think her bangs could be a bit bluer.
Porting from one area to another is fairly easy, but only if the area isn't full and you aren't going in when there are a lot of people already in that same area.
Freebies, if you know where to find them. Lately I've been hanging out at The Matrix and Odds N Ends. Made $L40 and got some rather neat stuff, favorite being the black mage wings.
Cons for the game - if there are a lot of people, there is some serious lag. I have turned off anything that might slow me down, but I still have to deal with the lag.
I think I might actually consider continuing as I caught myself looking for the prices of more RAM for my computer and even looking at the price of 10 meg cable service for our area - no way could I be addicted, heh.
So anyone else? Any suggestions of any similar MMOs that are free or close to free?
