Well, presumably, yes (although of course they don't earn "nothing", just "very little") - they're in the half of the world's population that only own 1% of the world's wealth. That's kind of the point of the study. Not sure what your point is...

The problem is that the people who own most of the wealth heavily influence how income is distributed. And, most of the people who own most of the wealth distribute the income in such a way that most of the income comes back to their pockets.
So, the rich become richer and the poor become poorer. It is much easier for Donald Trump to earn a million dollars, than it is for me. Even though, I am atleast as smart, hard-working and ballsy as he is. Why? Because Donald Trump has much mosre influence over distribution of income than I am.

I wonder how much of that wealth is location-wealth. IOW, a farmer who owns 1 acre of land in Africa doesn't have as much wealth as someone who owns 1 acre of land in Europe since the land is more valuable in Europe.

But to second your point about hard work, it has relatively little to do with wealth. I can honestly claim to have earned what wealth I possess, but it never felt like hard work, you know. The difficult and dangerous stuff has been low paid, for me at any rate.
