There are a lot of statements that Robin Warren and Barry Marshall ingested the bacteria to prove their point. However, I have not found anything of the sort.
quote:Dr. Marshall waited 10 days for the areas that had been biopsied to heal and then swallowed a pure culture of H. pylori. A week later, he had an unusual sensation of fullness after eating supper and felt ill. Friends told him that his breath was "putrid."
quote: The relatively indolent nature of presumptive H. pylori disease led some investigators to attempt to demonstrate cause by the most direct of means. In the 1985 article “Attempt to fulfill Koch’s postulates for pyloric Campylobacter,” Marshall and colleagues reported that a normal volunteer had swallowed a pure culture of the organism
...Perhaps more important was that the subject, who was none other than Marshall himself, failed to develop an ulcer. Note also that the disease resolved without treatment.
So it says that he did indeed consume some of the bacteria.
