Congratulations mgbdriver and son! I know you're both proud.
Do not worry, Pixiechic, I'm almost old enough to be your grandmother and am old enough to be his grandmother, and I think he's a good-looking kid, too. We're allowed to think people are cute! I may be old, but I ain't blind.

(picks up rolled-up newspaper) DOWN, LADIES, DOWN!
He's 17, and he'd be embarrassed as all hell if I told him about the comments in this thread (I'll wait 'til the time is right).
He has 45 merit badges (I think) and I'm the one who sews them on. Mrs. driver told me when he was a Cub Scout, "You're the one who signe him up, you're the one who sews badges."
His project was a complete transcription of local cemeteries for the city's historical society. He then compiled the info and put it into an searchable database so the ladies could look up a name without resorting to the 300+ pages of data. The project took 145 hours total.
It's been a banner Scouting year for him; he also earnd the Ranger and Silver Awards in the Venturing program (that's the green shirt in the tree).
We are very proud of him.

First, congratulations to your son. We're just on Bear right now but we've discussed the possibilities of Eagle. Its a long road but we're willing to go as long as he wants to do it.
Glad to know I'm not the only mom who delegated Scout responsibilities to the dad. I told my DH 'I'm not a boy & I was never a cub scout. This is your deal'. I do iron-on the patches though.
I do feel out of the loop at times because a lot of moms are very involved in Scouting & I do little more than show up when asked & help him as needed with requirements, arrow points & belt loops.
If all goes well, we'll be going to our 1st Jamboree in 2010, the 100th anniversary of Scouting! Can't wait!

I was never so happy when I was able to stop sewing those arrow points on two (yep, he had a long-sleeve and short-sleeve) Cub uniforms.

Well done, MGB and son! That's an accomplishment he'll remember forever- I can personally guarantee that.
Now, a few bits to pass to the MGBSon, from one Eagle to another- As overused as the phrase is, there truly is no end to the Eagle Scout trail. Once that silver Eagle has taken perch, it is your greatest friend in triumph and trouble, in joy and pain. From this day forward, until the Great Master has welcomed you home, you're marked as one of us, and that is something worth being!
Well done!

Whaa? He couldn't sew his own? Bah - I learned to sew when I was 5, with cactus fibre, and, erm, whale bone!

Congrats to your son, mgbdriver. And I'm a little embarassed to add that I too am a 30 year old who opened the picture and said "WOW! And look at all those badges, too!"
That's a great looking kid you've got there. And now an Eagle Scout. Lots of reasons to be proud.
