*grin* buf, you have no idea how incredibly timely that statement is.
Last night I was sitting there reading the book, ahem...Bible , with pinqy and of course we were both laughing quite a bit. Well apparently my laughter just sent my body into fits because the whole rest of the night my belly was hard as a rock (stupid fake contractions). So I wouldn't be surprised if another laughing jag ends up sending me into labor. *grin*
Oh hey, where are the photos from the last two DC meets? I looked on the page I've got bookmarked for you, but the most recent stuff there is 2003.
Mad Jay, thanks for the idea of the place in Vienna. Even if we don't have a big group thing there, pinqy and I will likely give it a try since we live close by.

I'm sure there are places in NoVA that have large tables. I believe Sweetwater Tavern can hold large groups of people; Glory Days Grill is another place where they'll push a bunch of tables together (I see it all the time for Wings Night).
ETA: We could also go to a bar or something (if the majority of people are 21+). But that might be noisy.
HEY! How about Hooters?

Try the sampler for the appetizer. We got the sampler, and I liked the grape leaves best. I heard a lot of good things about their doner kababs. It was good, but maybe I had my expectations set too high, so it wasn't as good as I expected. I will have to try the other kebabs next time.

They did put a couple of tables together, so all of us were sitting together. However, people at one end didn't get a chance to talk to people at the other end.

Pics from the last two meets, such as they are (the pics, not the meets), are here.
And speaking of restaurants, since you are now close to Vienna, make sure to try out Anita's Mexican Restaurant.

quote: Birthday celebration: I am trying again with the hope you will get to my question this week! Can you recommend any restaurants that have round tables for large parties preferably in No. Va. or DC? I hate sitting large parties at long tables because people can't talk to each other! Love your chat!
Tom Sietsema: How large is large? I'm not picturing a circle for twenty at the moment .... chatters?
For the round table seeker: I sat with a large party, had to have been at least 10 or 12, at Jaleo in Bethesda.
Tom Sietsema: Tip No. 1!
Washington, D.C.: We had a great round table for 10-12 at Zaytinya. I would think that for any groups over 12 finding a round table might be a bit more difficult.
Tom Sietsema: Tip No. 3!
Round Tables: I celebrated my birthday with about 8 friends and sat at a round table at Cafe Atlantico. And it was a blast.
Tom Sietsema: Tip No. 4!
Big Round Table: I had a great dinner for 8 at a big round table at Oyamel.
Tom Sietsema: Thanks for the reminder.

Awesome! Thanks for the link, bufungla! I know you've shown that to me before, but for some reason I just lost it.
Mad Jay, amazing what the net can do, huh? I feel silly that I hadn't even thought of it. *grin*
ooooh kabobs...and grape leaves...and..and... Ok calming down. But the freshly made hummus and pita sound awesome. It's been years since I've had good fresh hummus. *drool*

So where are we going to go, then? I can probably go some time in February- I have to go home to pick up more allergy serum after my next shots, anyway.

We don't usually have them every month. This was the first get together since 2004. (I'm thinking it was either fall or late summer.)
We'll start another thread when we're all ready to meet again.
I don't know how busy everyone else is, but I'm about to have a baby, so I'm not going to be meeting anyone any time soon.

My apologies - I was not suggesting Anita's as a meeting place (especially since the last dinner was at a Mexican/Salvadorian restaurant). The comment was just a general restaurant tip to someone new to that area.

Oh yeah, I meant to respond to that! I LOVE Anita's! One of my favorite places to go. And the cool thing is it only takes us about two seconds to get there. We go to the Burke one, though, not Vienna. The one in Burke is practically in our back yard. *grin*

You do realize that Tigg and I have both garb and feast gear, don't you? The last time we went, we had knives and wooden spoons (forks weren't period for our class), and our garb was considerably more detailed than that of our servers. Tigg even introduced the knights to a decidedly non-period activity known as a wenching.

Next time we go to Vegas, pinqy and I are totally going to the Excalabur to see the Knight's thingamabob.
Mad Jay, I'm fairly certain they do not have a vegetarian menu. No worries, I don't think we'd ever do a meet there for many reasons. pinqy just likes to instigate.
I'm really up for Chinese or Indian next time if everyone else would be up for them too. I swear I could live off of the billions of different Indian dishes there are. *drool*

I wanted to go there since a long, long time. I just thought I'd ask since it looks like couple of snopesters have been there.
We were almost there for an office event at my previous employer. We didnt go because most of us were vegetarian.

If you like South Indian, you can go to Amma's on Maple Ave. It's like Indian fast food, except that it's not fast. It's all vegetarian. Whatever you do, don't order Rava Dosa without an appetizer. It's yummy, but they take about 20 minutes to prepare.

They most certainly do cater to vegetarians as well as chicken eaters.
http://www.medievaltimes.com/ The vegetarian menu(bill of fair) is not at this time on the web site, but I called and got the info for us.
vegetarian meal
Egg plant parm over bed of rice egetable medly Garlic bread Pastry of the Castle Beverage
Veg soup has beef stock
To find the Bill of fair you have to go to location and click on the Baltimore/Washington D.C. Castle and click on that one.
So maybe we can all meet there, not that Buff and I would show up in garb or anything.

Sounds like fun...if you have the $50 and the ability to travel to Baltimore (my parents are still overprotective and won't let me drive out of state...and yet I drive 4 hours to go to school...)

Cool!! You are the greatest, Tigg!! Thank you so much. I found the chicken menu on the web site, but I didn't even think about calling them. So, did they say that you have to inform them ahead about the vegetarian meal, or can we just order one right there?

If you just go there, and try to get in that night, you might not be able to. It is best to make reservations and tell them then that you need a vegetarian dinner then. I forgot to ask when you give them that info. So as it is better to call for reservations, they can also tell you that.
Even if we don't do this as a snopes thing let us know if anyone is going Buff and I might meet you there.

Well, we can't go right now. Lots of things going on , like I have to finish Civ 4 before my wife decides to kill me Frankly, if we are going to do this as a snopes meet, then I would rather do this as a snopes thing. That would be more fun How about we take a vote in say.. June for a meet somewhere around September??
