IMO the latter. Snopes has a long history of defending George W's nfbsk-ups. E.g. the "plane crash" at the Pentagon. It wouldn't surprise me at all if we found out "snopes" was really run by the RNC!

Comment: It's always a great service when myths and misinformation are exposed. Truth and fact can be a rare commodity. However, your site (and presumably your televsion show) are disappointing and lack credibility. You show a very right-wing bias which casts a shadow on any attempt at truth seeking. When one considers the current assualt on democracy, the constitution and freedom by the Bush Regime and their extreme right-wing supporters, it is truly a shame that your motives and choices are suspect.
Why not give it a try? Start with Ann Coulter's ironically titled volume of lies and distortions. You could then follow it up with an exposure of the Orwellian lies and propapganda of George Bush, Dick Cheney, John Ashcroft, Rumsfeld, Rice and their fellow travellers. It's a gold mine for debunkers.
Better to play fair now, don't you think?

Since when is it an Urban Legend that politicians and political commentators are biased and don't tell the truth?

But wouldn't that require actually buying and (shudder) reading her book?

You label this as "FALSE", not because the statistics or facts are wrong, but because you disagree with the interpretation given.
Shouldn't you keep your own politics out of it? But if you must preach, call it "MISLEADING" not "FALSE".

Comment: About your latest "Arizona Flag" photograph query: Aren't you supposed to explain these things, rather than just state a plain "True" or "False"? Gullible people will be tempted to understand that you confirm some kind of paranormal or religious phenomenon. It should be easy to show another photograph where it shows how the weaving of the flag begs for such light effects, isn't it?
BTW, you show a marked tendency to offer such "religious right" photos and, above all, comments, that have nothing to do with Urban Legends. Lest we view this as an undercover agenda of using your information site for disseminating political views, wouldn't it be time to set up a parent site, devoted to this kind of stuff as separated from the original goal?

^^ Made of tinfoil?
I kinda wondered the same thing, minus all the religious right and undercover agenda and other tinfoil-hat nonsense. But then I thought "oh, wait, if they'd EXPLAINED it then all the religious right with undercover agendas would bother snopes about it!"
After all, it DOES kind of come down to a matter of opinion in the end. And they DID explain the cross in the WTC. Need they repeat it? Well, yes, some people might not have seen the first one, but still...

Comment: After spending several hours on your most excellent website, I am struck with the notion that you are extremely defensive on the matter of George Bush (either0 and tend to lay blame on Bull Clinton where possible. Now perhaps I am reading between the lines, or perhaps you are simply telling it like it is, but one must wonder how candidly you report the "facts."

Some people can be so deeply entrenched in their particular "world" that they assume all others are also in that same world, at least with some thought pressed to it. News to some people out there, not EVERYONE even thinks about video games, the lottery, politics, and/or baby corn as something that even exists to them.
He read it with that pot churning, and so hearing something contrary to personal belief, you MUST be biased. Then again, you probably already knew this as it's fairly obvious .
Sure, you do place lots of personal opinion in your various debunkings, but the underlying debunk itself is always done with logic. The opinions are an aside after the fact, and they do proove interesting.

Comment: In regards to your article on the ruling about teachers leading their students in the pledge of allegiance, I find that the overly biased attitude of the author of the article particularly offensive. The seperation of church and state is one of the defining characteristics of our nation and I agree wholeheartedly with the ruling. Moreover, I find the phrases used in the article about how we should or must have this ruling overthrown to be shortsighted and ludicrous. I ask that this article be re-written in a more objective tone or removed from your website.

Comment: I would just like to know if this site is supported by the Militant Christian Right or if the petitions to let ABC know that Jesus should not be bleeped or to stop a girl from getting an abortion are the only ones circulating on the internet. It seems to me that many of the items in the petitions section, whether they were real or not, were slanted very far to the right. I enjoy most of the site but if you make it a point to raise conservative issues, I am afraid I will be forced to never visit the site again and spread the word to my moderate to left friends.

You know, I have a feeling that in other forums this person takes strong stands AGAINST censorship. As long as it's not something he disapproves of.

Comment: One of the things I've always admired about your site was the attempt you made at being FAIR. I've never felt like you displayed a particular bias in favor of or against an individual or position. Your jab at Rush Limbaugh is an exception. At the most, with the evidence you presented, you should conclude the story is "undetermined". And to suggest that it is somehow incriminating because of the way he responded suggest that you don't listen to his program and should not comment. Rush doesn't make a habit of responding to PERSONAL attacks against him. Attacks on his political positions? Hell yes! But he rarely discusses his personal life (outside of the cigars he prefers.) Sourcing Al Frankin's book kind of gives you away.

A biased person is simply someone who does not share my biases!

Yeap, I agree with you. The best thing I've learned being a history major is that to be human means to have biases and all we can do as humans is reconize our own and others biases and take them into account.
